Overview

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and actively supporting the day-to-day operations of the Steel Door Manufacturing Group.
This is a hands-on leadership role that requires a strong presence on the production floor, working directly with employees to ensure production targets are met safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards.
The ideal candidate is a practical, results-oriented leader who enjoys being involved in daily operations, solving problems as they arise, and supporting the team to achieve operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Daily Operations
  • Supervise and actively participate in daily manufacturing activities to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Assign tasks, coordinate work orders, and monitor daily production priorities.
  • Work alongside production employees when needed to support operations, resolve issues, and meet deadlines.
  • Identify and address production bottlenecks, delays, and operational challenges.
  • Ensure efficient use of labour, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and productive work environment.
Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Provide hands-on leadership, guidance, and support to production employees.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor, ensuring employees have the tools, materials, and direction needed to perform their work.
  • Monitor employee performance, productivity, and attendance.
  • Coach and train employees on work procedures, quality expectations, and safe work practices.
  • Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
  • Address day-to-day employee concerns and escalate issues when necessary.
Health & Safety
  • Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure employees follow established safety procedures and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and address unsafe conditions and behaviours.
  • Conduct routine safety checks and participate in incident investigations.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized production area.
Quality Control
  • Monitor product quality throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Perform routine inspections to ensure products meet established quality standards.
  • Identify quality concerns and work with employees to implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure employees follow proper work instructions and manufacturing procedures.
  • Minimize rework, waste, and production errors.
Communication & Coordination
  • Conduct daily team meetings to communicate production priorities, safety updates, and expectations.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Production Manager regarding progress, challenges, and staffing needs.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure materials and resources are available.
  • Support effective communication between shifts and production teams.
Equipment & Materials
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are available and used appropriately.
  • Identify equipment issues and coordinate maintenance support when required.
  • Monitor material availability and report potential shortages.
  • Encourage proper handling and care of tools and equipment.
Reporting & Administration
  • Complete daily production reports and maintain accurate operational records.
  • Track production progress, attendance, and operational issues.
  • Report incidents, quality concerns, and production delays to management.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably in a hands-on operational role.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory, team lead, or production leadership position is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of shop floor operations and manufacturing processes.
  • Willingness and ability to work directly on the production floor and assist employees when needed.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and support a production team.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage daily priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable taking initiative.
