Overview:
APEX is currently accepting applications for a Manual Machinist within its Aerospace Component Manufacturing Group. This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the CNC Machining Supervisor.

The Manual Machinist will set up and operate or tend metal cutting machines designed to make products with precise dimensions following established procedures.  Machinists inspect machined parts and tooling in order to ensure job specifications are met and that quality standards are maintained. This position will start on the day shift, with a gradual transition to the evening shift.

Duties:
  • Setting up job and tooling machines.
  • Verifying dimensions and tolerances (using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, fixed gauges, dial indicators).
  • Measuring and laying out work pieces.
  • Operating and/or tending machines for metal cutting and finishing operations.
  • Repair and fabricate jigs and fixtures.
  • Inspecting machined product to ensure job specifications and quality standards are met.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machines (i.e. checking oil and coolant levels, cleaning filters, etc.).
  • Preparing paperwork accurately and in a timely fashion (i.e. timesheets, travelers, etc.).
  • Moving raw materials and finished parts (using cart and pallet jack).
  • Other duties as assigned to meet operational requirements.
     
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • General machining experience.
  • Experience with metal cutting machines (turning, milling, slitting, plaining, punching, honing, drilling, boring, broaching, grinding, shearing, and pressing).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical information (blueprints and job orders).
  • Ability to read and interpret imperial and metric measurements.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Know and abide by all company rules, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Work safely and maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
  • Share knowledge, identify, and communicate training needs or areas of potential improvement.
  • Maintain production schedules following established procedures.
  • Cooperative and willing to share knowledge or mentor others.
  • Identify and communicate areas of potential improvement (cost savings, productivity, and efficiency).
  • Experience with various tools or equipment (grinder, caliper, lathe, drill, hammer, sander, saw, micrometer, cage blocks, milling machine, forklift, CMM, etc.).
     
Assets:
  • Knowledge of jig or fixture design and fabrication.
  • Manual Machining license or equivalent education and experience.
  • Knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of fixturing.
